Happy 2013, everyone!
Beginning this new year, this new website, I've also decided to add a blog to this page for a more informal way of communicating around here. It's also a way to keep things more up-to-date in "real time" about what I may be up to, which may not always fit in the resume, calendar, or other sections of this site.
The picture at left is a case of this, although it's on the calendar, as well (need to update that page! Sorry!). On Christmas morning, I had the wonderful privilege of singing for the service at the Princeton University Chapel. Not only is it a truly wonderful place to sing, and an honor which I do not take lightly, it's also extremely nostalgic for me, having sung in the Chapel Choir there for four years during my undergrad. Coming back to perform in familiar spaces with previous incarnations of the broader musical and life "family" is always a joy, and is even more so when that place is such a gorgeous one!
It was also a wonderful reminder of my current place in life and career: taking many steps forward (being a full-time freelance musician is certainly something for which I'm grateful! No more random part-time work! And no more being a student!), while also keeping connected to past people and places, and finding new ways to serve those people and perform in those spaces as a "pro". And constantly looking for more. I'm so thankful for the lessons learned from all of my mentors and colleagues in each place, and just hope that I can continue to add to their number and continue to work with them throughout the years to come.
So, 2013. Easing into the new year with a fairly relaxed week this week, then back to a busier singing, playing, and teaching schedule in the next one. Grateful for what's on the plate already, and eagerly awaiting the surprises to come. Here we go!
